TUSAL July

We interrupt the retreat postings to bring you the TUSAL update for July brought to you by Senior Frog's cousins below!

Check it out,  there are two respectable piles o'ORTs this month!  The pile on the left are the regular ORTs and the pile on the right are retreat ORTs.  I'd say lots of stitching has been going on...oh yeah!!

This month's contributors were:

  • The Drawn Thread's Rosebud Nametag (DONE!)
  • Glory Bee's Celebrate the 4th (DONE!)
  • July Assignment for the EMS SAL aka BAP (DONE!)
  • Marsha's Hello Kitty b-day gift (DONE and received!)
  • JBW's A Very Merry Summer, my Seasonal Exchange gift (DONE and received!)
  • Three ORTs buckets, gifts for my roomies and one for myself (DONE and received!)
  • JBW's Queen Bee, gift for a special friend (DONE and received!)
  • Lizzie Kate freebie, my retreat exchange gift (DONE...more on that later today)
  • Garden Gate button for the retreat project (DONE!)
  • A Brightneedle project (DONE...needs to be completed)
  • A Mary Garry project I finished at the retreat (DONE...more on that later today)
  • The beginning of the tote bag band for the retreat tote
  • A new start on a Chessie & Me project

Looking at that list, I'm really happy with my ORT report.  It was an overall good month!  I got a lot done!

Did you notice a theme there?  Yep, lots of gift stitching.  I am finally able to share what I've been up to since last TUSAL when I mentioned gift stitching.

I love being able to surprise someone with a gift of my stitching and I love participating in exchanges too.  Both bring me joy.  I think it's just as much fun to give as it is to receive!

The next installment of the Russellville retreat adventures will be posted later.  Thanks for stopping by and stay tuned!

Russellville Retreat - day 2

I need to back up a bit and talk about day 1 a little more.  We made our annual stop at the Needle Nest in Shelbyville, Kentucky, for a little stash enhancement.  I know you want to see the stash enhancement because I can hear you saying "yes, please show me the stash!"

I found a couple of things I've been stalking hunting for on the bay of evil.  That would be the Lizzie Kate chart and the Bent Creek chart.  I also found some petite pearls for a project I need to finish.  I can't wait to show you that finish.

Of course I couldn't pass up the new Prairie Schooler!  You know me and my love for PS.  I splurged on the Praiseworthy Stitches chart because it came with the beads and charms to do the finishing.  I know I would have spent way more hunting up the individual packages of these things, so in my mind it was more cost effective to just get it kitted up with the chart.  That's my story and I'm sticking to it!  Oh yes I am!

When we got into town on day 1 we had some time to kill before our dinner meet up time.  One of my roomies needed a nap after all that driving so my other roomie and I headed into town to shop the local boutique.  We always find goodies when we shop there!

I like to pick up a little piece of jewelery when I travel.  This time I found two super cute pieces as well as a silk pouch to keep them in!  That shade of pink and purple are two of my faves!  I wore the earrings to dinner that night and the bracelet the next day.

Okay now were are caught up!  On Friday we all met back up at the Breathitt House to start our day of stitching.  We were all given this tote bag along with a baggie of floss and a hunk of fabric for our group project.

Here's the inside of the tote!  Our hostess lined each and every tote her shelf and even put pockets in them for us.  Isn't that great?  I just love that happy fabric!

You might be wondering what that green ribbon is for that's hanging off the tote in the picture above.  It's for our official retreat pins!  Each year one of our very talented attendees makes us all a pin.  They are themed to go with whatever we are making that year.

So far I've attended three retreats.  The first year we had a bee theme, the second year we had birds of a feather, and this year it's butterflies!

This is the beginnings of our group project.  It's going to be a band that we'll sew around our tote.  Both ends of the band will have the fence and sunflowers.  It will be joined by the "garden gate" button you see in the picture.  We are to freehand stitch random flowers, bees, butterflies, birdhouses, signs, whatever you like across the band.

This will take a bit of time as since we are making it up as we go along and the band is pretty long too.  We were told to bring our totes with us next time because we are going to do something else to them.  I can't imagine what that will be!  It's going to be fun to see what everyone comes up with when we meet again next year.

Remember this?

We turned it into this!  It's a name tag for our tote bags finished ornament style!  I really love how this turned out.  We all got to choose how we wanted to do our twisted cord.  I chose to the simple route and just went with one color.  Some folks went wild and used multiple colors.  They were all really cool!

We were also given a hunk of fabric and this skein of floss in case we wanted to make a second bag like some of the New Mexico girls made at their retreat back home.

Here's Bobbie's tote bag.  I love how they used the black ric rack to cover the fabric edges.  We were told that both the black tote bag and the canvas ones came from Hobby Lobby.

Here's Valerie's tote bag.  You can see all her retreat pins up there at the top.  She's been coming a lot longer than I have.  I really like this tote idea and as soon as I can get to a Hobby Lobby I'm going to look for one of these bags!

You can never have too many tote bags, right?!  I can see my honey rolling his eyes at that statement.  He thinks I have an addiction to tote bags.  Sorry honey, I couldn't resist.  Giggles!

Here's Senior Frog in his new ride!  I think he likes the new tote bag.  LOL!

Speaking of Senior Frog, he met a girl on this trip!  Her name is Fiona and her mommy is one of my peeps.  I think they look pretty cozy hanging out there!

Okay, let's get serious again as in more stash shopping!  Every year our hostess brings us things from market and sets up a mini shop in the front parlor.  Just look at all the juicy fabric!  The charts are on the tables under the window over there by the flag.

Here are some of the things that came home with me!  I couldn't live without some of that rose and purple fabric.  I also got rather large chunk of that 40 ct. too.  It's close to the Gentle Arts color called Peach Ice Cream!  I also got some banding since it seems to be harder to find.  I have plans for that tiny frame too.  It's only 1 1/2 inches square!  Who knows what I'll do with the floss.  It was just too juicy to pass up!

Of course there were charts!  You knew there had to be charts.  Oh yes there were!  This year she brought in an Erica Michael's trunk show.  I fell in love with a couple of the EM's.  I plan to put the Random Threads one in the tiny frame I bought!

I also loved the Cherry Wood dictionary charts.  Our hostess has these stitched up and framed in her house and let me tell you, they are awesome.  I'm totally copying that idea!  I'm like that dontcha know.

The other chart you see is a La De Da and I liked the saying on it.  We had a discussion over what that company's name was earlier in the day.  All we could come up with was Fa La La or Sha Na Na or Ooh La La!  Yeah, we were in a silly place at that hour!  LOL!

Well, it looks like we've come to a good stopping point for today.  I still have more to share.  I've still got pictures of  our exchange, show & tell and some other random stuff.  Stay tuned!

Russellville Retreat - day 1

I finally got all the pictures sorted and ready to go!  Whew, that was an undertaking.  LOL!  I'll warn you, you are in for a long post today and probably again tomorrow too.  Here we go!

Here's the gang packed and ready to shove off.  It was a beautiful sunny day and hot as usual.

We headed south and took the ferry across the river to Kentucky.  That's the landing on the Kentucky side you see there in front of us!  We are on the ferry in this picture.  I just love the ferry!  I get all giddy when I ride it.  The girls think I'm nuts.  Yeah, maybe I am.

Here's the view from the middle of the river.  Just look at the calm water that day!  I love how the sun is sparkling on the water.  Once on the other side we were on the road for several hours before getting into Russellville.

Here we are at the hotel.  My roommates are totally addicted to their iPads!  They stayed up into the wee hours playing with these things.  I don't have one myself so I'm not sure what all the hype is about.  Maybe if I had one I'd know.  LOL!

A while back I alluded to doing a lot of gift stitching that I couldn't yet show.  Well, you've already seen two of the things I've been working on in my last couple posts (here and here).  Now I can show you the rest of it!  I gave my roomies their gifts before we headed out for dinner.

I stitched us all ORTs buckets!!!  I saw these buckets at Michael's when I was there looking for something else and knew right away what I wanted to do with them!  I always forget my ORTs container but not this time!  Don't you just love the little washers on their twisted cord?!

Design:  Summer Alphabet (just the flops)
& Initials from stitchpoint.com "Madrid" font
Designer:  Lizzie Kate & Stitchpoint
Fabric:  40 ct. Antique White (1 over 2)
Floss: "C" = DMC 52 + 907
"P" = 113 + 742
"L" = 107 + 912
Started:  6/23/12
Finished and completed all three: 6/24/12

You'll notice in the picture above that two of the containers have something in them.  I also included homemade thread drops made by yours truly!  I felt the containers needed something in them.  These are so fun to make and super easy too!

Design:  Queen Bee
Desinger:  JBW Designs
Fabric: 40 ct. Antique White (1 over 2)
Floss:  WDW Confetti
Started & Finished:  6/22/12
Completed:  6/28/12

Next up, I made this for a very special person I only see at this retreat.  I just wanted to make a little something as a thank you to show my appreciation for all the special things she does.  Besides, this one just screamed her name to me when I saw it.  I think it turned out super cute!  It's only the second time I've attempted this finish and this one is pretty tiny, only 2 1/2 inches square!  Love it!

After the gift giving we headed out to meet the group and head over to the restaurant for dinner.  Here's some of the group chatting it up while we waited for everyone to arrive.

I forgot to get a picture of our humongous pizzas we had for dinner but I did get a picture of dessert.  This one's for you, Patti!  She affectionately called these "moose balls" and dared me to say that on the blog!

There were two of them but I ate one before getting my picture.  They were chocolate mousse in a chocolate cup with homemade whipped cream and a drizzle of raspberry topped with mint leaves!  Oh yes, they were to die for!!!

After dinner we all headed back to the Breathitt House to drop off more stuff and arrange the room for the next day's stitching.  Then we all headed back to the hotel to rest up for a day of stitching and fun!

Stay tuned!  We are just getting started with all the fun and festivities.  Thanks for stopping by and reading clear to the bottom here.

Secret Stitcher

Check out what was waiting for me when I returned from the weekend's retreat! My Secret Stitcher spoiled me with a really fun package filled with red, white and blue! Those that know me know I simply adore Americana themed designs!

She included a super cute flag notepad, a wonderful floss toss, a nice hunk of fabric appropriately called "Heroic" and a really sweet freebie chart called "Red, White & Blue" by Poppy Creations.

I think this fabric looks like a melted snow cone!  Nothing like a good snow cone in the summer.  I've never stitched on fabric dyed like this before.  It's so pretty!

Funny thing about the chart, I actually picked it up at the LNS at the last stitch-in.  Now I have all the goodies to be able to stitch it!  I can't wait to get started.  It's going to be a tough choice between those juicy silks or the scrumptious cottons.  I love choices like that.

Thank you so much Secret Stitcher. I really love this month's goodies!

Speaking of the retreat, I have tons to share about my weekend getaway in Russellville, KY.  As soon as I can get things sorted out and I get back in the groove, I'll have tales to tell.  I had a great time and lots of memories were made.  As always, it went by way too quickly!

Seasonal Exchange - Summer

Design: A Very Merry Summer
Designer: JBW Designs
Fabric: 28ct. White Opalescent Linen
Floss: DMC (my own conversion)
Started:  6/5/12
Finished & Completed:  6/14/12

I'm so pleased to finally be able to share another finish with you today.  I saw on the Seasonal Exchange blog that my partner had posted it was received so here it is!

As you may remember, I was invited to participate in this exchange way back in May!  My exchange partner was Alison over at Stitches of Time.  This little pillow winged it's way across the pond in record time!

I chose this design because I knew it was one of Alison's favorite designers and I had read on her blog that she has a summer house in Spain on the water! I chose the opalescent fabric because it reminded me of the way light sparkles on water. This picture shows it better than the first two.

It was difficult to give it away as it turned out really really cute.  I'm so glad Alison likes it. It was a pleasure to stitch!

~*~*~*~

Thank you Alison for being my partner and thank you to Lisa S. for inviting me to participate.  I can't wait to see what I receive from the person who is stitching for me!  I just love exchanges!

Thanks a bunch for taking the time to visit with me and for allowing me to share another great finish with you.  I hope you all have a great weekend!

Until next time,

Hello Kitty finish

Design:  Hello Kitty Bee freebie
Designer:  Carolines Truien blog
Fabric: 25 ct. Lugana
Floss: DMC 1 over 1
Started: 6/14/12
Finished & Completed: 6/21/12

Now that I've finally been able to give my peep, Marsha, her birthday present (a week late) I can show it to you.  I've been dying to share but had to wait until the gift was received.  Isn't she cute?!

You see, Marsha and I share a love of Hello Kitty.  There's just something so cute about her that we both are just crazy about.  My idea to stitch this actually started when I saw this tin.

Isn't it a super cute little tin?!  I couldn't give it to her empty so I went cruising around blogland looking for a Hello Kitty freebie.  Since Marsha loves bees as well as Hello Kitty, this was the perfect one for her.

Here's the stitched piece with the chart.  You'll notice that mine looks a tad bit different than the chart!  I think maybe the jpeg was stretched a bit before it was posted on the Internet since her head is a bit elongated.  Oh well, it's still cute.   LOL!

This was the first time I tried stitching over one on 25ct. Lugana.  I'm pleased with how it turned out and Marsha loves it too.  I'm just glad I was able to finally give it to her.  Thanks for stopping by today!

Until next time,

And the winner is...

Giovanna of Giovanna's Stitches!!!!

Giovanna said...

Happy blog anniversary! It's always a great pleasure to visit your corner of the blogosphere.
7/03/2012 4:50 AM

So what did she win you might ask?  Well, I'm glad you asked.  It took me a while to decide what to put in the package.  After giving it some thought, I came up with a few of my favorite things.  Yeah, I know, now you are singing that song in your head aren't you?!  LOL!

Here's the whole pile!  Let's break it down...

Everybody needs a mesh bag to keep your project safe.  I love these bags!  I also threw in a couple fat quarters.  You know I love me some polka dots, so you knew there had to be some of those in there.  I also threw in a super cute frog print.  You know, to ward off the frogs!  I love all things Americana so that's where the stars come in and of course, I love me some Hello Kitty too so that's what's on the pencil even though it's hard to see.

Then there had to be a small floss toss!  I chose to have a little "Celebration" with "Buckeye Scarlet" because I love reds and this is one of my favorites.  Also, what's a celebration without a little "Pink Champagne?!"  Besides  you all know how I love pink!  I would have loved to include some real champagne but somehow I didn't think that would make it through the postal system very well.  LOL!

Of course what's a giveaway without charts?!  I dearly love Prairie Schooler so I had to include one of them.  This one's called "Fall Fields."  I also included a bee chart by Twisted Threads called "Itty Bitty Honey" because second to acorns in my book are bees!  I also put one in by Cherished Stitches called "All My Friends."  Last but not least is a kit by Theresa Layman Designs called "Outstanding in their Field" with cute little sheep on it.

So there you have it folks!  Congratulations, Giovanna!  Please email me your snail mail address and I'll pop your package in the mail to you!

~*~*~*~

Thank you to each and every one who left me a comment on my blogoversary post and welcome to my new followers.  I appreciate your visits more than words can express.  It is because of you all that I am continually inspired!  I look forward to the coming year and many more.  Thank you so much for visiting with me today!  I hope you all have a great week!
