Tiara Retreat - Show & Tell

I've decided to do Show and Tell pictures separate from the exchange pictures.  I figure this is going to be picture heavy enough as it is.

I was so impressed with all the stitchy goodness.  If this doesn't inspire you I don't know what will.  My "to stitch" list is now a bit longer after seeing all this!  Yep, everyone's wonderful things truly inspired me.  Just look at all of it!

Check out Janis' Quaker Pin cube!  She saw my fob and just had to stitch this one up for herself.  I just love that!  Seeing hers makes me want to stitch this one all over again.  It really was a fun stitch and I think Janis would agree.

I didn't stitch this one but I've had this one in my freebies file for a while now.   You can get it over at Kissy-Cross' blog here.  She actually has a lot of really nice freebies on her site.  You might plan to spend some time there.  I know I just saw a few new ones I haven't grabbed yet!

I hope you've enjoyed the retreat posts so far.  I plan to do one more with all the exchange smalls before I wind it up.  Thanks for hanging in there with me and taking the time to stop by.  I always enjoy sharing my adventures.  As always thank you so much for your comments.  They really do make my day.

Tiara Retreat

I'm back as promised with more pictures to share.  I think I'll do a couple posts to break them up.  This one is going to focus on the people, places and things.

This is where we went.  It is secluded out in the middle of nowhere in southern Indiana.  It's also where the University of Cincinnati's football team has training camp.  Not that I'm into football but this will explain all the UC stuff in some of the other pictures.  You'll see.

This is the lodge where we slept and the lower level (can't see it in the pic) is where we stitched.

This is the dining hall where we all ate together.  I think I was in a food coma all weekend.  I seriously ate more this past weekend than I usually do in a week.  Let me just say that if you left the table hungry it's your own fault.  I'm not even kidding!  You want to see proof?

This is the most scrumptious apple dumpling I've ever had (well since the one I ate here last year).  It has cinnamon ice cream and carmel sauce.  See, I wasn't kidding!  It's what we call in our office a "moaner dessert."  I'll let you think about that for a minute.  Okay, moving on...

Christie, Jenny, Señor Frog, me, and Marsha

Here are my blogging peeps with Señor Frog.  There were two other non-blogging peeps that I did not get a picture of.  However if you pop over to Marsha's blog, she got them.  Ha!  Yes, I'm talkin' about you Patti and Amanda!!

This is Maribeth's ORT bowl.  Isn't it too cool?!  I seriously want one.  I love the flag and the primitiveness about it.

I saved the very best for last!  Look at the cuteness that is this tiny acorn.  Marsha spoiled all of us with one.  It is made from a real acorn cap and the bottom is velvet!!!  I just couldn't quit snuggling that velvet.  Yep, she spoiled us!

***
We did a several new things this year at the retreat.  We had chair massages on Saturday.  This was a first for me and it won't be my last either!  I didn't get a picture of that unless one of the peeps was sneaky and snapped one.  I don't think they did though.  Whew!

We also had tea late Saturday afternoon.  Complete with cookies, mints, and lots of different teas to try.  I tried the Celestial Seasonings Sugar Plum Spice!  I will definitely be looking for some of this to add to the tea collection in the pantry.  It was awesome!

As I mentioned before, we had a smalls exchange this year too.  We really had a lot of participation!  I enjoyed seeing all the different things folks made.  I'll do a complete post on that later.  You've got to see each and every one of them as well as all the awesome stuff on the Show and Tell table.  It's was about as close to heaven as a stitcher can get seeing all that goodness.  We are a talented group for sure!

As you can tell so far, we really did have a great time. I'm already looking forward to next year!  Thanks for stopping by today.  I always appreciate your visits and your kind comments always make my day.

Weekend progress

I thought I'd pop in and do a quick post to show you my progress from this weekend.  I set a goal for myself before I left.  It was to make progress on the two WIPs I've got going and treat myself to a new start from the basket o'joy.

All Through The Night - Jolly Jack

This is actually my treat.  I'm an eat dessert first kinda girl!  I'm using the called for floss and fabric.  I actually got the chart while on vacation in Kansas City and the fabric at Shepherd's Bush.  I got the pumpkin done Friday and the rest late Saturday night.  I did a bit more on it on Sunday too before we had to leave.

C Street Samplerworks - I Sigh Not For Beauty SAL

Next up, is  I Sigh Not For Beauty.  I got the girl and the tree done on Saturday.  Ellen gave us the September assignment recently so I wanted to make sure I gave this one some attention.  So far I've been able to keep up with all the assignments.  I still love this one as much as I did when I first started it!

Patrick's Woods - Lucet

Finally, Patrick's Woods Lucet for the class on October 1st.  This one, I can not lie, gave me fits!  I have to confess this stitching was done at home.  I think the combination of lack of sleep and trying to socialize while doing tent stitch over one was just too much for me.  I admit defeat.  I had to frog this baby twice!  I finally decided I'd better not waste anymore silk so I just bagged it till I got home.

As you can see I had better luck in my nest at home than I did at the retreat.  Lesson learned!  I like how it looks now that I finally got my head around where to put that needle when doing the tent stitch.  This is only my second attempt at this stitch.  I found I needed a working copy of the chart and some colored pencils to keep me straight on where I'd been and where I needed to go!  People, it's all about the learning for me and learn I did!

Well, I hope your week is off to a grand start.  I'll be back later with more pics and tales.  It's amazing how much time it takes to get a picture heavy blog post ready!  LOL

A day of rememberance

Today is the 10th anniversary of that tragic day.  I remember where I was and the stillness in my world that followed.  It was the day the world changed forever.  Hug your loved ones today and observe a moment of silence for those who no longer can.

Tiara Retreat Here I Come!

My bags are packed and ready to go!

Tomorrow I head off to the Tiara Retreat!  I can not wait.  A long weekend spent secluded in the woods with all my peeps.  We'll stitch, laugh, eat, laugh, stitch, laugh, stitch till we pass out, repeat.  It's going to be great!  I think the hardest part will be deciding what to stitch first.  Don't worry, I've got several things to choose from!

This year we are doing an exchange.  We've not done this before so it should be fun.  I almost hate to give mine away!  I'll show it to you when I get back.  I don't want any noseys seeing it here first since all the peeps read this blog.  No spoilers here.

We are also having chair massages this time.  I've never had a massage of any kind so I'm looking forward to this.  I usually get a pretty good kink between my shoulders when I marathon stitch.  I'm thinking this should be a very good thing.

Well, I'd better get on with it and get off here.  I need to get some sleep.  I still have to work half a day tomorrow.  I'll be back with tales to tell and I'm sure the peeps will too.  It's going to be a great weekend!

A weekend get away

If you ask my honey when our anniversary is, he'll tell you the Saturday before Labor Day.  If you ask me, I'll tell you the actuall date!  It's all good though because that just means we celebrate our special day twice!

This year we celebrate 15 years together!  Yep, 15 years.  I can hardly believe it myself.  It really doesn't feel like it at all when you are married to your best friend.

We had initially talked about doing it up big for this one but circumstances of reality changed that plan.  So instead we decided an overnight getaway would be just the thing to do.  So where did we go you might ask?

Shaker Village at Pleasant Hill, Kentucky

We went to Shaker Village at Pleasant Hill, Kentucky.  It is truly a remote place nestled in the rolling hills of central Kentucky.  I just loved all the stone fences we passed along the way and all the beautiful horses in the fields.

We thought we might ride the motorcycle but Mother Nature had other plans.  We woke up to a grand thunderstorm and rain.  Well, needless to say we were not getting on the motorcycle in weather like that.  So we packed up the little truck and off we went!

Here's our home away from home.  It's a stone house that was built in 1811.  Yes, we stayed in a 200 year old house!  The first floor window on the right was our room.  It was kinda neat staying in a place that old.

This was the view when you looked to the left outside the door.

Once we dropped our things off in the room we decided to head down to the river for a riverboat cruise!

Rain!!!

No this is not a fuzzy picture.  This is how hard it was raining when I took this picture!  Yes, we got soaked on our cruise.  We noticed the dark clouds rolling in when we boarded the boat.  The captain said since there wasn't any lightening we would still go out.  In spite of the torrential down pour it was still fun.

When we woke up the next morning it was still raining hard.  We had thought we would walk around and check out the buildings but the rain made us decide otherwise.  We later found out it was the remnants of tropical storm "Lee" making its way northward.  We most likely would have been waiting all day and it still would be raining!  Oh well, it just gave us a good reason to come back another day.  Maybe we'll have to make a day trip out of it on the motorcycle next time.

Before we left for home we made a trip to the craft shop for a souvenir.  As I've mentioned before I collect Shaker boxes so I wanted to go see what I could add to the collection.  I was really amazed to see this stack in the store.  Oh to have such a stack in my house.  I can only dream!  Instead I came home with these little beauties.

A tray to keep beside my stitching nest, a presentation box, and a Shaker tree chart.

My honey and I got to laughing on the way home when we realized the similarities this anniversary getaway had to our actual honeymoon and early vacations.  We took a dinner cruise on our honeymoon between two tropical islands.  There was a hurricane coming when we boarded the plane to return from our honeymoon and several of our early vacations were spent in a pick-up truck with no air-conditioning.  How's that for coincidences?!

No matter where we go or what we do, I always have fun when my honey is by my side.  Here's to another 15 years!

Until next time,

Stitch-in and a finish

Wow, what a weekend we had!  I kicked it off by taking the day off on Friday to get a head start on the weekend.  It was also the first Friday stitch-in at the LNS.  I was surprised there were so many people there since it was the holiday weekend around here.  I am happy to report that I finished what I brought to stitch.

Design:  Field of Berries...Scissor-minder
(from SAM cloth newsletter)
Designer:  Eileen Bennett
Fabric:  32 ct. cream linen
Floss:  DMC (1 over 1)
Started:  7/30/11
Finished:  9/2/11

You can tell how small it is by the size of the needle in the picture.  It's a standard size 28 needle!  I will finish this as a scissor fob.  I don't think I'll do the usual stuffed kind though.  I have an idea in my head I need to work out for this one.  Stay tuned!

***

Of course a trip to the LNS would not be complete without a little stash enhancement.  Here's what I picked up while I was there.

  • JCS Halloween Collection book (this is a good one if you are into Halloween)
  • 2011 JCS Ornament issue (lots of good stuff in here)
  • A piece of 32ct. mocha linen for an upcoming project
  • Two flosses I needed for said project

It was a good time.  I got to visit with some folks I don't normally see.  A very nice way to start off a long weekend.
